hello
my name is pan, long time watcher, first time poster
not my real name, obviously, because nobody is quite that mad in the untamed frontiers of the wilder web
once bitten, twice shy, and all that
i don't want to talk too much about the work i do, for similar reasons, but suffice to say i tend to work with images both still and moving, 'photographer & videographer' is part of my technical title, but i'll spare the specifics unless they become startlingly revelatory, i mean relevant
this site has always been an odd little anchor for my sweetest anxieties
a big part of what i do (sometimes in the lens of my job, and sometimes outside the scope, as hobby, focus and profession blur) is look for discrepancy, for the cracks and the hiccups, and the answer to almost all is that someone put them there (often, but not always, on purpose!)
i have had to engage in all matter of debunking with my chosen mediums, especially as technology ever races forward in the year of our bored ██████ - the enthusiast in me is ever giddy but the secret luddite patrols the confines of my skull like a tiger pacing its cage
(i am not a textile worker nor a felidae burning bright, just to be clear)
i have seen and made the inexplicable become explicable, yet often found myself yearning for deeper mystery, now suddenly finding myself a little concernicus - i am a big lover of the ultimate truth of a thing, so perhaps by being a tidge dissatisfied by the smaller ones, i have called upon the universe to deliver me a grander lie to parse?
while i cannot commit to sharing the physical evidence and must tread a little lightly on the specifics, if there are any interested parties that want to help broaden my view, or adjust their own focal points to the task, i would be willing to share, assuming my connection to this place holds
do let me know - my teeth are a chatter and my shutters a-flutter,
pan

Re: panoramic views
What a delightfully eloquent introduction. I'm sure you'll find much here to sate your desire for the truth and peak behind the mask of those that would wish it hidden.
Welcome to the darkness, I hope you brought a good flash.

Re: panoramic views
Photography is to time as ice is to water—capturing what is fluid in a moment of stillness, which enables us to observe it in entirely new ways. Often I will go into my own darkroom and feel like my array of negatives are akin to a collection of pinned butterflies.
Welcome, pan. Hopefully this board will be illuminating for you. Just remember, from one photographer to another, to be careful bringing light into a darkroom.

Re: panoramic views
seems an odd thing to be made at home in this odd little corner, but i suppose i prefer it to the alternative, so thank you both spin and pen for the warm welcome. pen, our handles are a little eerily similar, don't you think?
and spin, it is such a thrill to hear from another photographer, and i couldn't agree more - to me, the art of photography is the alchemy of giving memory physical form
it is the closest we have to
snatching a stitch in time
and saving it for posterity
like those pinned butterflies
or bugs frozen in amber resin
or your ice to water
you should see the work i do with a corkboard! making a patchwork out of memories, it gives you a unique perspective, the ability to turn a moment over in your hand, to connect it to others in the quilt like the way that neurons link together
i have a friend who says it makes me look crazy
when i do it for non-work related reasons
that word seems to come up a lot in my life lately
something tells me maybe you both understand this?

Re: panoramic views
what you say about photography strikes something within me. it is a strong sort of alchemy, maybe one of the most accessible too. maybe I will look into a few tutorials myself
I admit I know very little about how to capture something and make it beautiful. (I have some experience in pinned butterflies, though.)
the "ultimate truth" is quite a feat. I am not sure it is possible, but I will be curious to read your progress, as much as you are willing to share. I am intrigued by what you are working on now, too. it seems you are hot on the heels of a mystery, maybe one with one clear path waiting to be uncovered.
sometimes our friends ground us, and sometimes our friends push us further toward our dreams (whether or not they mean to). do you think you are crazy, pan?
